Father’s Day: Honor Your Father’s Gifts

Father's Day

The last time I saw my Dad alive was last Father's Day. The anniversary of his passing quickly approaches. It's a bittersweet time.

I've been in a swirl for a bit, images flash forwarding in my mind's eye and massive emotions thundering through every cell of my being. Love is an astounding energy. I feel my Dad with me still, maybe even more than when he was alive.

Father's Day Invitation

It can be easy to celebrate holiday's from the surface: “Love you Dad! Happy Father's Day!” Maybe this time go a little deeper. Connect to the huge reserves of time and energy that have been expended to bring you into being. Not only your physical self, your total self. Who nurtured your dreams and hopes? Who provided the framework for you to become who you are?

Take a moment to honor and celebrate the man that has probably influenced you the most. In the hub bub of everyday life the minutes and moments pass. Before you know it they're gone. The things that matter most deserve your energy and attention.

My Dad fed my incessant need to know, to understand and experience for myself. He challenged me and gently pushed me into self discovery. He nurtured my love of music. From my earliest memories song and dance lived in my home and in my body.

Father's Day Can Be Challenging

Early on I struggled with my relationship with my Father. It wasn't all sunshine and roses. There was a lot of bad stuff in my childhood. I managed to glean the gifts from challenging experiences. How to Make Peace and Receive Your Father's Legacy shares that story.  If Father's Day is a tough time for you maybe it will help you shift your perspective.

Today take a moment to honor the gifts of your Father. Feel the flow of love that has molded your being. Soften into it. Keep what's still relevant and cherish the heart that delivered it.

Happy Father's Day, Honeys!
