Thanks SO much for stepping up to co-lead the Circle! It takes a certain level of connection to your writing and your fellow writers to say, "Yes!" I appreciate your willingness to be in the dance, darling!

I'm here to share a framework, basic principles, and best practices, in leading writing circles. I've also used many of them in leading other virtual events.

This Circle is a conscious, co-creative collaboration. It is a powerful synergy of science and art. It is evolutionary alchemy! I’ve been doing the circle dance for 15 years now.

Welcome to the Circle!

Adela

Line it up, Lovely!

Before we gather to connect and commune with the forces of Life, let's tune in, let's line up for the adventure at hand. Feel the infinite combinations, as creation glistens within and without  . . .

Writing Circle Facilitator Guide-line it up

What do you know . . .

For me, the energy of this circle feels fun, fabulous, and big. Its focus is collective power, especially the embodiment of a new level of power. It's also an invitation to create quantumly.

There is a level of truth and power that I experience in these circles. It powers up a lot more than only our time together. It impacts my daily creative flow, instills a sense of stimulating peace, and gives rise to serendipitous joy and wonder. Thank you.

Ready to Co-lead Quiz

The power of the circle comes from collaboration. It is a beginning and an ending. All points on the circle make it so. We all take turns leading (in this case, co-leading) a circle.

I get there may be times you don't feel like having the reigns in your hands. There's space in the circle if that happens when it's your turn to lead. You can easily have someone cover for you.

If you're on the fence about co-leading, here is a quick quiz. Answer Yes or No:

  1. Can you find 1-2 topics that you're eager to explore?
  2. Can you find quotes, poetry, excerpts, etc for for the topics?
  3. Can you pull from them 1 or two possible prompts?

If you say yes to at least number 1, then you're good to go. Number 1 is about desire. You have that we're good to go. Number 2 is about Resources. Plenty of those. Number 3 is about creativity. You're loaded with that, lol!

Take a look at the circle themes and topics below, then register to co-lead the ones that feel provocative and/or exciting.

Circle Themes & Topics

Check out the Circle Power Themes, review the topics that speak to you, then register to co-lead in the Signup Sheet Below. You can sign up to co-lead more than once.

1. Self-Awareness. Writing circles give you an opportunity to be in the practice of connecting to your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs. You get to name things, or at least to articulate as much as you have right now. Your writing is a picture in time. It gifts you clear sight of what is actually occurring in your head. Once it's on paper it's hard to deny, even when you want to.

2. Self-Reflection. Writing circles give you the sacred space, and loving container, to see what your deeper self is trying to uncover. Often your writing will reflect things below your conscious level of awareness. Similar themes will surface in your circle giving you the opportunity to see your own challenges mirrored by another. Here you get to sift through the ones that work and relinquish the ones that don't.

3. Self-Discovery. Writing circles will give rise to surprises. You will discover talents you've yet to claim. I discovered I could write poetry (and I hated poetry in high school). A sacred circle of women is an energy conduit to your true self. As you trust more and more, with every writing session, who you are comes to the forefront.

4. Self-Actualization. Writing circles give you a safe space to try out new ideas and ways of being. A sacred circle of women activates your feminine power: feeling, intuitive, heart-centered movement. You do not need to disguise your creative, collaborative and caring nature. It is your superpower, your gift, your strength.

3 Roles in a Circle

A writing circle is sleek and simple.. Nothing is set in stone. These are the 3 roles I've seen most often

Circle Facilitator

Responsible for circle program hosting,  production, and facilitation. Opens and closes circle program and each call. On the bridgeline 5 minutes before call for welcome and connection. Contributes one reading and prompt. Manages the tech piece and timekeeping. Also includes upload of content, recordings, and resources to member area.

Circle Co-Facilitator

On the bridgeline 5 minutes before call for welcome and connection. Contributes two readings and prompts. Facilitates the reading and sharing of writing. Keeps track of who's on the call, who has read their writing, and who hasn't. It's best not to call on people. Instead, invite the next writer to share.

Circle Participant

Find a quiet space where you are free to explore. Write in a notebook. There are reasons to write longhand. Share your writing if it feels right to you.

Sign up for topics that speak to you. You can sign up to co-lead more than once. Come up with 2 readings and 2 prompts. It can be a quote, a reading, poetry, or your own writing. Create a suggested writing prompt.

I’ll always lead one prompt. I’ll open and close the circle. I’ll take care of the tech and the timing. I always begin with a connection exercise or guided visualization. When you co-facilitate consider if you’d like to lead that piece too. Check out my theme descriptions here.

Prepare for the Call

To make magic invest your creative essence in service to the circle. Here’s how to do that..

FIND 2 READINGS THAT RELATE TO THE WEEK’S TOPIC. You can pull from any genre: It can be poetry or politics. It can be something you’ve read or something you’ve written. Feel into the place that makes your spine tingle or your spirit roar. The best prompts tend to be short and to the point.

WRITE 1-2 WRITING PROMPTS. Notice what pulls you in from the reading of it? What words are tugging at you? Is there a specific phrase that wants more of your consideration? Notice what words or ideas pop for you. Create writing prompts from there.

DECIDE WHETHER YOU WILL LEAD THE CONNECTION PORTION OF THE CALL.  I always begin with a connection exercise or guided visualization. When you co-facilitate consider if you’d like to lead that piece too. You can do it however you like. This is a great place to explore and try things.
