If you're looking to amp up your creative bandwidth, knowing the habits of highly creative people is helpful. Knowing it's possible is half the battle. Once you see what others have done to get there, you can adopt those habits and tweak them for yourself. We are all highly creative.
Here are 7 habits that creative individuals perform daily. See if any of them are right for you.
- Journal daily. The process of journaling helps you to get creative juices flowing. It can also be a helpful way to process your thoughts and feelings. A couple of ways you can journal include bullet journaling and free-flow writing. You can also do audio notes in your favorite note-taking app.
- Engage in creative projects. Whether painting, writing, or creating a new course, find daily time to engage in creative projects that delight you. The more you create, the more you create.
- Be open to new ideas. If you feel stuck, try something new. Be flexible. Experiment with a new medium or explore different subjects. It can expand your creativity and open you to new possibilities. For example, if you like journaling, try sketching or painting your entries instead of writing them.
- Take breaks, or better yet daydream. Stepping away from your work can help you return with fresh eyes. Breaks can clear your head and spark new ideas. Even a ten-minute walk outside can boost your creativity. Gazing into the sky and making out shapes from clouds works too!
- Be persistent in your practice. Don't give up if your first attempt isn't perfect. It takes practice and experimentation to hone your skills. It takes time for your body and mind to adjust to new activities.
- Surround yourself with creative people. Spending time with other creatives can help to inspire you and give you new ideas. There are creative circles everywhere. You can find them on Facebook, Meetup, or you can join The Wild Creatrix Community.
- Practice self-care. Taking care of yourself is crucial. Self-care goes beyond basic hygiene, exercise, and nutrition; it's about ensuring you feel your best to unleash your creativity. Make this part of your foundational practices. There are plenty of tips on my Self Care Mastery site.
These habits start as a conscious practice then they become who you are. I'm sure you're already practicing many of these and more. I'd love to know the habits that have amped up your creative capacity. Let me know.
