5 Books That Evolved My Younger Self
Has a book changed the direction of your life? Books are powerful doorways to expand your perspective and your worldview. They invite you to re-evaluate your beliefs and shift your thinking.
I've been an avid reader for 50+ years. A book is all I need to battle boredom and pass the time pleasurably. I am never without one or more. I have a book and a Kindle in my pocketbook, books on my car's passenger seat and even in my trunk.
If you're a highly sensitive/highly aware person, your first friends might have been books. I know they were for me. The library was my favorite outing. I usually went every week and walked away with an armload of books. I had to take two buses to the main library. It was worth the trip. Yes!
Not much has changed, lol! There's nothing more rewarding than nestling into my favorite spot and diving into a new adventure and making new friends.
Here are 5 books that I first read almost 40 years ago. They helped shift my thinking and turned my world around. They were the fork in the road:
Psycho-Cybernetics: Updated and Expanded. Dr. Maltz was a plastic surgeon who was frustrated when beautiful women would come into his practice insisting on having work done when they were already stunning.
My primary takeaway from the book: Self-image impacts what you think is possible, thereby impacting your behavior and outcomes.
Seth Speaks. This was my first book on channeled material. It covers a wide range of metaphysical concepts, including the nature of God and physical reality, the origins of the universe, the evolution of the soul and more.
My primary takeaway from the book: The Universe is immense and multiple perspectives and realities are available. Reality is flexible!
Creative Visualization: Use the Power of Your Imagination to Create What You Want in Your Life. This book shares the process of using your ability to visualize to consciously imagine, create and attract what you want to experience in your life.
My primary takeaway from the book: The mind can't distinguish between a real or imagined event. Go ahead and create the change you'd like to see in your life with a daily practice of visualization. It works!
You Can Heal Your Life. Louise Hay's groundbreaking book on self-healing. The book's message of non-judgmental love and support, along with powerful affirmations, has been used by millions on their healing path.
My primary takeaway from the book: Your body has infinite intelligence. To heal align with and listen to it.
The Science of Mind: The Complete Edition. Ernest Holmes was the founder of Religious Science and an early proponent of the meme that you create your own reality. According to Holmes, Science of Mind is a synthesis of the laws of science, philosophy, and religion, applied to the human needs and aspirations.
My primary takeaway: Your reality is a personal creation and every branch of human knowledge reflects your ability to shift the physical realm.
Books are harbingers of possibility and portals to new worlds. Franz Kafka captures it brilliantly:
A book ought to be an ice pick to break up the frozen sea within us.
Books have done that for me. How about you?
